Mary Reid Hemphill, 92, of Brookhaven, went to be with her Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ, on August 3, 2017. She was born on December 11, 1924, to Lemmie Reid and Ruth Summers Reid.
Mrs. Hemphill was a graduate of Fair Oak Springs High School and Soule Business College
and worked with an abstract company in several Mississippi county seats and was working at
Meadville and staying at the Bude Hotel when she met Don Hemphill who became her husband.
She worked for the Mississippi Welfare Department, was also a bookkeeper for Welshens Farms and
Ford Motor Company in Rosedale, Mississippi, and was office manager for Dr. Louie Wilkins for
38 years. Her husband retired in 1985 and Mary retired in 1987. She was always active in her
church and work for the church nursery for years. She married Don Hemphill in September 29, 1950
and they enjoyed a wonderful 67 years together.
Mrs. Hemphill also was a member of Daughters of the Revolution and First Baptist Church.
Preceding her in death was her parents, Lemmie and Ruth Reid; brothers, George Dewey Reid
and Rev. Wiley Bliss Reid.
Those left to cherish her memory is her husband, Donald Alan Hemphill; daughter, Donna Hemphill Magee
and husband Jimmy; sisters, Billie Reid Capozzi, Sarah Reid Berthelson and husband George and sister-in-law,
Katie Reid. Mrs. Hemphill is also survived five grandchildren, Molly Magee Shepherd and husband
John Thomas, Kelly Magee Cates and husband Zach, Jay Magee and wife Caroline, Bonnie Magee
and Pierre Urisanga, along with a devoted friend and caregiver Bobbie Quarles.
