Rainnie Furr

Rainnie Calhoun Furr, 61, passed away March 6, 2023. She was born in Charleston, S.C., August 8, 1961, to Leroy Calhoun, Jr. and Carolyn Howard Calhoun.

Rainnie loved cooking and taking care of her dogs. She was an avid crafter, making jewelry for loved ones and was the most organized and thoughtful person her family has ever known. She recently purchased a 2004 Corvette so her husband and her could go to car shows. In the past, she rode motorcycles and enjoyed showing her horses when she was young. She raised her two kids to be highly successful and she was always taking care of others first. She wouldn’t have it any other way. She was so strong-willed and was such a guiding light in so many people’s lives. She will be missed by all that loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 35 years, Richard Hart Furr; daughter, Logan Killen and husband, Brandon and son, Marshall Furr and wife, Tori; her parents; along with her brother, Leroy Calhoun III and wife, Sharon; and sister, Wrenzie Rice and husband, Tom.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made in her name to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League (BARL).

I had the pleasure of teaching Rainnie Calhoun Senior English many years ago at Stall High School in North Charleston. She was a great student, a joy to teach. I remember her ever-present smile. I extend my condolences to all her family.

To Rainnie’s family, My prayers are with you. During the time I worked with Rainnie, she spoke fondly of you all, and often. I was one of those who experienced Rainnie’s light. She was a friend, mentor and manager, always willing to share her wisdom. She had courage to speak truth to power, lifted up others and taught me so much. First and foremost, she was a Mom. There are no words to ease your grief . I pray that the memory of her light will comfort you. Peace.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Furr and Calhoun family. Rainnie always had the personality, voice and especially her laugh that always brightened everyone around her.
