Mr. James David Peavey, 77, was born in Brookhaven on June 5, 1945, a town that he loved. Often times he could be seen downtown at the railroad park enjoying a snack from Janie’s.
David was a proud 1964 graduate of BHS. After completing high school, he enrolled at Whitworth College where he met his wife, Judy Alexander. They married and went on to have three children. David began working at B&O Supply in 1977 where he encountered many people as a salesman and delivery person. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where he was actively involved, serving as a deacon, a member of various committees and was a RA leader. He was also involved in the youth group and went on many mission trips. David had a special interest in antique items and old cars, that of which he held a large collection of over the years. He loved his family, his wife, and the Lord. He spent a large amount of time ministering in the nursing home where he shared devotions and led worship, singing well-loved hymns. David loved all animals, big and small.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Freemon Peavey and Lou Annie Tarver; wife, Judy of 49 years; sister Peggy Griffin; sister-in-law, Joy Peavey and sister-in -law, Virginia Peavey.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Marcus Peavey, Lisa Calcote and husband Barry and Laura Barrington; brothers, Danny Peavey and wife, Jo, of Cameron, NC and Billy Peavey of Brookhaven; five grandchildren, Rachel Peavey, Kaitlynn Bullard and husband Lee, Bailey Calcote, Lane Calcote and Carson Barrington along with two great grandchildren, Marlee Mae Bullard and Preslee Bullard (due in July).
He was a dear friend to many. He will be greatly missed.
