James David Peavey

Services for Mr. James David Peavey of Brookhaven are 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at New Prospect Baptist Church with burial at church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 pm, Monday, June 5, at Riverwood Family and will resume Tuesday, from 10:00 until the time of service at the church.

Mr. James David Peavey, 77, was born in Brookhaven on June 5, 1945, a town that he loved. Often times he could be seen downtown at the railroad park enjoying a snack from Janie’s.

David was a proud 1964 graduate of BHS. After completing high school, he enrolled at Whitworth College where he met his wife, Judy Alexander. They married and went on to have three children. David began working at B&O Supply in 1977 where he encountered many people as a salesman and delivery person. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where he was actively involved, serving as a deacon, a member of various committees and was a RA leader. He was also involved in the youth group and went on many mission trips. David had a special interest in antique items and old cars, that of which he held a large collection of over the years. He loved his family, his wife, and the Lord. He spent a large amount of time ministering in the nursing home where he shared devotions and led worship, singing well-loved hymns. David loved all animals, big and small.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Freemon Peavey and Lou Annie Tarver; wife, Judy of 49 years; sister Peggy Griffin; sister-in-law, Joy Peavey and sister-in -law, Virginia Peavey.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Marcus Peavey, Lisa Calcote and husband Barry and Laura Barrington; brothers, Danny Peavey and wife, Jo, of Cameron, NC and Billy Peavey of Brookhaven; five grandchildren, Rachel Peavey, Kaitlynn Bullard and husband Lee, Bailey Calcote, Lane Calcote and Carson Barrington along with two great grandchildren, Marlee Mae Bullard and Preslee Bullard (due in July).

He was a dear friend to many. He will be greatly missed.

A special thank you to Diversicare staff and Wayne and Angie Wallace.

Donation can be made in his memory to BARL or New Prospect Cemetery Fund.

Prayers for family and friends ?
David was a kind hearted Christian man. Always encouraging others. When Wayne passed he would always have encouraging words for me. And he loved his little kitties. He helped me with one, Boots. I didn't know what to do, he got me headed in right direction and now Boots is well.
Will miss him, but he is in Heaven with Jesus and Judy, he missed her so much.??

We have lost a good man, David, strong Christian, with amazing character. Kind human. We pray that all healing of loss is swift and all memories are long and sweet. No doubt, this Gentleman traveled to Heaven’s Gate.

To David and the Whole Peavey family:

David was a Blessing to all who knew him. We grew up together as next door neighbors.
I was lucky to be his friend---he provided a good role model from birth to age 18. He was
instrumental in keeping me on the straight and narrow since he was 2 years my senior. We
went to school together, played together and prayed together. He is surely looking down
on us from Heaven. I will miss him--a lot.

Prayers for the family. Mr David could speak the sweetest prayers. I will always remember him calling and having prayer with my mom over the phone when she was sick in the hospital.

I am so very sorry. Bro. David was such a good person, and a special friend to me and my Mother.
We were in Diversicare at the same time for therapy, following our open heart surgery.
His Wednesday night devotionals at Diversicare were so wonderful.
My prayers are with you and all his family.
