Peggie Ruth Jackson Brasseal

Memorial service for Peggie Ruth Jackson Brasseal will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 19, at Riverwood Family. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday.

Mrs. Brasseal, 82, of Brookhaven, passed from this life September 13, 2022. She was born in Brookhaven, MS, April 12, 1940, to her parents, Lawrence Jackson and Madoline Pepper Jackson. She was a loving wife to her husband of 62 ½ years, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to spend time with her family and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James Wesley Brasseal; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Neva Jackson Short and Willie J. Short; and her brother, A.C. Jackson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Mary “Kitty” Brasseal Nations (Kenny), Jimmy Brasseal, Dawn Brasseal Case (John), and P.J. Brasseal; sister-in-law, Clara “Pat” Jackson; eight grandchildren, Tasha Nations Bales (Jr), Lehne Brasseal (Emily), Cody Nations (Beth), Hunter Brasseal, Sgt Konner Case (Erika), Holden Magee, Bailey Magee, Crystal Blair; and seven great grandchildren,                A1C Owen Anderson (Melody), Colten Bales, Ethan Bales, Jaylee Nations, Lyam Nations, Abby Blair, and Riley Blair. She is also survived by other loving family members and friends.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Beth Brown and Jodie Sartin of Brookhaven Health & Wellness and Deaconess Home Health and Enhabit Hospice, for the care they have given our loved one.

Jimmie Dale Granger

Funeral service for Jimmie Dale Granger will be 10 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2022, at Bethel Baptist Church in Hazlehurst, MS, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, September 15, at Bethel.

Jimmie Dale White Whittington Granger, our dear wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.  There are not enough words to describe this precious lady. She loved her family and God, fiercely.  Her life exemplified the fruits of the spirit each day.  Jimmie Dale was the baby of the family and brought much joy to her late parents, James Henry "Jim" and Minnie Ashley White of Hazlehurst.  Jimmie Dale was born on April 22, 1939 and lived in the Bethel community her entire life.  She was a faithful member  at Bethel Baptist Church where she willingly worked and served for many years in all activities of the church.  She worked in the food service industry her entire life and most of those years were spent at Hardy Wilson Memorial Hospital as the food service director.  She was an excellent cook, great gardener, and she loved flowers and quilting. 

She is survived by her husband, Derrel Granger, her son, Ricky (Rhonda) Whittington and her stepson, Derrel (Dee) Granger. Her grandchildren are Katie (Roy) Patrick, Hollie (Lyle) Berard,  Neil Whittington,  Nicholas Whittington, Drew (Kayla) Granger and Spence Granger. Her great grandchildren are Taylor Berard, Emily Patrick, Madisyn Berard, and Jorie Granger.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Ovis Whittington; her son, Ronnie Whittington; grandson, Dustin Whittington; sisters, Jeanette White, Evelyn Hall and Christine Hutchison; brothers, James Earl  and Billy Joe White  and many other loving family members. 

The family would like to express our deep appreciation for the care provided to Jimmie Dale by Debbie Gladden.  She was very kind, compassionate and helpful to the family.

Reverend Riley Leroy Hinton

Funeral service for Reverend Riley Leroy Hinton will be 11 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2022, at Riverwood Family, with interment in Riverwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.

Mr. Hinton, 87, of Brookhaven, passed from this life September 12, 2022. He was born in Laurel, MS, November 22, 1934, to Leonard Leroy Hinton and Doris Viola Odom Hinton. He was an ambassador for the Lord Jesus Christ, serving as pastor to numerous churches, and a member of First Baptist Church in Brookhaven. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and has even been able to share life with his great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Rev. Hinton is preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Glenn Dunbar.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Patricia E. Hinton; children, Ann Hinton Dunbar, Brent Alan Hinton (Cindy); five grandchildren, Brian Dunbar (Savannah), Brandt Hinton (Kate), Braxton Hinton, Zoey Claire Hinton, and Riley Kate Hinton; and four great grands, Berkley Dunbar, Bryce Dunbar, Brinkley Dunbar, and Mary Brixten Hinton.

Mark Andrew McFarland

Mark Andrew McFarland, 66, of Meadville, passed from this life September 10, 2022, in Baton Rouge, LA. He was born in Natchez, MS, June 25, 1956, to Ralph McFarland and Dot Foster McFarland. He was retired from Herring Gas Company.

Mr. McFarland is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Pearl Foster and Allen and Elizabeth McFarland.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patricia McFarland; children, April Moak, Jason McFarland (Hilie), Justin McFarland, Dustin McFarland (CeCe), stepsons, Brian Laird, Brad Laird, and Shannon Courtney; brother, Andy McFarland (Angie); sister, Cindy Foster (Mickey); 11 grandchildren, Brittany Prevost (Justin), Hayden McFarland, Jaci McFarland, Allison McFarland, Lauren McFarland, Elizabeth McFarland, Madison Moak, Lilly Moak, Emma McFarland, Mia McFarland, Justin Wayne McFarland; one great grandchild, Bentley Prevost and four step grandchildren. He is also survived by nephew, Guy McFarland; niece, Meagan Baker; and special partner in crime, Chasity Foster, as well as other loving family members and friends.

Jane Day West

Jane Day West, age 92, passed away, after a brief illness, at her
son's home in Natchez on September 10. She was born Minnie
Jane Day in Brookhaven, Mississippi, the eldest daughter of
Scheumann and Laura Mae Day, on January 7, 1930.

She was "Minnie" to her husband, Jerel (Red) West,
"Momma" to her children, and "Mawmaw" to her grandchildren and great
grandchildren.

She was a long term resident of Lafayette, Louisiana, where she
enjoyed bowling, antiques, playing cards, and her pets. Her list of
hobbies was long including gardening, tole painting, and going to
casinos. She loved to cook and spend time with family and
friends. She loved life and strived to live it to the fullest.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jerel L. West.

She is survived by a son, Jerel West, Jr. and wife Sharon; a daughter,
Amy Davis; five grandchildren, Beth Roach(Michael), Laura West,
Lee Davis(Sheree), Summer Deville(Larry), and Wesley
Davis(Maegan); and 4 great grandchildren, Charlotte Roach,
Savannah Davis, Jacob Davis, and Cohen Deville; two sisters,
Sally Bullock and Martha Arrington; and numerous nieces and
nephews.

Dannita Sue Ford

Graveside service for Dannita Sue Ford will be 2 p.m., Saturday, September 17, at First Pentecostal Church of Bude Cemetery.

Dannita Sue Ford, 71, of Nederland joined her beloved husband, Floyd Ford and her Lord and Savior Saturday, September 3, 2022, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. Dannita was born November 28, 1950, in West Monroe, Louisiana to Dollie and Daniel Hemphill.

Dannita was a native of Bude, Mississippi and a member of First Pentecostal Church of Bude. After moving to Nederland, Dannita would often visit her church back home. She was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother who was immensely dedicated to her family and her faith. Dannita was always a positive person with an upbeat personality. She loved life and enjoyed working on jig-saw puzzles and singing. Dannita had a love for butterflies.

Dannita was preceded in death by her father, Daniel Marcus Hemphill; spouse, Floyd Daniel Ford; and grandson, Brady Ford.

Those left behind to cherish Dannita’s memory are her daughters, Kimberly Ford of Nederland, TX; Danielle Tompkins and her husband, Rick of Roatán, Honduras and their children Isabella and David; Angela Barnett and her husband, Bruce; son Dan Ford and his wife, Jennifer of Mississippi; mother, Dollie Hemphill of Bude, MS; sister, Donna Brister and her husband, Olen of Bude, MS; niece and nephew, Rebecca Brister and Adam Brister of Bude, MS.

M. Jerry Rutland

Services for M. Jerry Rutland will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 14, at Calvary United Pentecostal Church, with burial in Powell’s Grove United Pentecostal Church Cemetery. Visitation is 5-9 p.m., Tuesday, September 13, at Calvary and will resume from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday.

Mr. Rutland, 77, of Jayess, MS, passed from this life, entering his eternal home with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, September 11, 2022. He was born June 24, 1945, to James Melvin Rutland and Agnes Marie King Rutland. He was employed as Utilities Department Foreman with Georgia Pacific in Monticello, MS. He was a member of Tri County Cruisers and an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Rutland found the greatest joy in helping others. Being the hands and feet of Jesus, making a difference in the lives he touched. He was a faithful follower of Jesus and was glad to join his faith family in fellowship and worship. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Otis Rutland and Glenn Rutland; and his mother and father-in-law, W.H. “Dub” and Mary Katherine Womack.

Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Joyce Ann Womack Rutland; children, Elliot Rutland and wife, Jocelyn and Allen Rutland and fiancé, Jenny Smith; six grandchildren, Caroline and Claire Rutland, Addison and Avery Rutland, and, soon to be, Jaxon Barron and Blaire Buckels. He is also survived by a host of family and a countless number of friends.

Linda Ann King Smith

Linda Smith, beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother went to meet her Lord and Savior on September 8, 2022, at the age of 77.  Visitation will be held Friday, 9/16/2022 from 5:00PM-8:00PM and continue Saturday 9/17/2022 with services at 2:00PM at Riverwood Family Funeral, Brookhaven MS.  All are welcome to attend the services to celebrate this special lady.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Cameron Smith and her grandson, Brooks Ashton Smith of Brookhaven, MS; her parents, Lenwood and Ruby Lucille King of Holden, Louisiana; siblings Ray King, Joyce King Gill, Imelda King Broussard, and Gene King, all of Louisiana. 

She is survived by her children Kimberly (Wayne) Mitchell of Parkville MO, Mark Smith, and Jason (Heather) Smith of Brookhaven, MS.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Grant (Sheena) Abbey of San Diego, CA; Samantha (Niko) Mitchell of Houston, TX; Anna Katelynn Smith of Jackson, MS and Cole Smith, Jacob Smith, Jonah Smith and Jackson Smith all of Brookhaven, MS.  Her siblings Norma King Doughty and Glenn (Beverly) King of Holden, Louisiana.  She is also survived by her bother-in-laws Louis Broussard and Johnny Gill; sister-in-law Connie Smith Beavers and lifelong special friends Charla Kaulk, Paula Green, Delois McClelland and many beloved nieces and nephews. 

Linda Smith was born on August 30, 1945, in Holden, LA.  She graduated from Holden Hight School and attended Southeastern Louisiana University.  She married Russell Cameron Smith of Brookhaven in 1965 and lived in Brookhaven for most of her life.  She was a buyer for Lofton Department Store for many, many years. She loved the Lord and was also active in her church community.  Most of all, she dearly loved her children and grandchildren and spent most of her time going to recitals, football, baseball, and soccer games.  She moved to Madison, MS in 2002 and moved to Kansas City, MO in 2021 where she resided until her death. 

Linda had a beautiful, loving, thoughtful and generous spirit with a contagious smile always on her face.  She was loved by all who knew her and adored especially by her grandchildren.  Donations may be made to Holden Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Holden Louisiana or to the charity of your choice.

Martin Edward Bowman, Jr.

Funeral service for Martin Edward Bowman, Jr. will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, September 13, at New Beginnings Church. Visitation is from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow service in Cline Family Cemetery.

Mr. Bowman passed from this life Friday, September 2, 2022. He was born in New Orleans, LA, May 27, 1962, to Florence Morgan and Martin Bowman, Sr.

Mary, as he was known, was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He began work in the oil field industry but eventually left and held others various jobs such as mechanic, tree services, and construction, as well as many other things. He loved spending time with his family and friends, having a good time dancing the night away or riding his motorcycle. He also loved his game birds and in the past, loved to go to chicken fights. He spent most of his spare time working on things. He was a very proud father and grandfather, and it was truly an honor for him to be called dad and grandpa. He will be greatly missed, but his memory will live on in the ones who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepdad, Lucis Morgan; brother-in-law, Johnny Morgan; a very special friend, Sherry Campbell; and numerous aunts, uncles, and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Dustin Bowman; two grandsons, Elijah Bowman and Michael Bowman; one granddaughter, Nita-Ray Bowman; son, Darrell Robertson; the mother of his son, Patricia Hamilton; sisters, Rosa Morgan, Maria Yates (Billy), Vicky Roberts (Jeff); nieces, Becky Bouche, Lizzie Schilling, Christian Moak, Shanna Mier, Jessica Durham; nephew, Cheyenne Walker; as well as numbers great nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mary Katherine "Kathy" Moore

Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Katherine Moore will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 13, at Riverwood Family, with interment in Riverwood Memorial Park. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Mrs. Moore, "Kathy", as she was known by her family and friends, 72, of Brookhaven, passed from this life September 9, 2022, at her residence. She was born February 9, 1950, in Brookhaven, MS.

Kathy was an apartment manager at Country Village for 31 years and loved her tenants like family. Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, visiting with family and friends, and working with youth. Kathy also enjoyed “clickin”.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert E. Moore, Sr; parents, Garland and Lessie Mae Farris; brothers, Johnny Farris, David Farris, and Ronnie Farris; sisters, Marie Farris and Georgie Hunter; and niece, Sandy Simpson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert E. Moore, Jr and wife, Megan, Jimmy Moore and wife, Tasha, and Bridget Britt and husband, Bobby; sister-in-law, Ruby Simpson; five grandchildren, Jacob, Kyli, Makenzie, Emma, and Ella Jayne. She is also survived by special friends, Kathy Eaton and Sandra Walden as well as her nieces, Amy Heard (Jaymie), Sherry Starkweather, Melissa Briggs, Valerie Coldwell (Tom), Kimmi Boyd, Sherrie Cook, and Shirley Cook, and nephew, Petey Farris.
