Mr. Thames, 88, of Ruth, died September 1, 2024, at Merit Health Wesley Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. He was born in Brookhaven, MS, on August 8, 1936, to Dave J. Thames and Maggie Bell Kyzar Thames.
Richard’s greatest joy was spending time at home on his farm with his wife, family, friends, and animals. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved breeding and training Belgian horses, as well as seeing to his cattle. He enjoyed working with his horse-drawn farm equipment and occasionally still used it to rake hay and plow his garden. He also enjoyed coon hunting and bird hunting. He raised many hunting dogs over the years. He loved sharing his immense knowledge and experiences of working horses, hunting, and farming with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, James Walter Thames and David Michael Thames.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Migonne Thames; children, Pam Case (Doug) and Rick Thames; two grandchildren, Leah Case and Jakob Thames (Cheyenne); numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family members, friends and his cherished mountain fiest dog Prissy.
The Thames family would like to thank Renee Thompson who was not only a compassionate nurse but also a tremendous friend during his illness.
