Services for Mr. Kenneth D’Wayne Varnado will be 10:00 am, Friday, June 25, 2021,

at Riverwood with visitation from 5:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, June 24, at Riverwood.

He will be laid to rest at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington VA.

 

Kenneth D’Wayne Varnado, 61, passed away on June 18, 2021, at his home.

He was born on June 8, 1960, to the late Francis Whitfield Varnado and Loleta Morris Varnado.

Mr. Varnado served his country in the United States Army as a Green Beret during the Operation Desert Storm and Operation Desert Shield.

He enjoyed fishing, watching sports and spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by all that loved and knew him.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Kenneth Varnado Jr.; sister, Melanie Varnado.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Ryan Varnado, Cameron Varnado and wife, Sara,

daughter, Ciara Myers and husband, Shawn; brother, Gary Varnado and wife, Bonnie.

He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Malcolm Striblin, Addison Myers, Easton Myers, Cooper Myers,

Jaxon Varnado and Catherine Varnado. Along with numerous relatives and friends.

    Our deepest condolences, love, thoughts, and prayers are with you. May our Heavenly Father guide you through this time of sorrow with the light of his love. We pray that He will comfort you and provide you with courage, hope and peace. We take solace in knowing that for Ken, life did not end but only changed. How honored and blessed I was to have served together with him in the 2nd Battalion,5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) during Operations Desert and Desert Storm. Please know that this magnificent Special Forces Warrior’s bravery, courage, example and spirit are enduring and will transcend generations to come. “De Oppresso Liber”. God bless and keep you all.

    I served with Ken in 1998 when NZ SOF were working along side the 5th Group. Unbeknown Ken was sharing lessons learnt with our group during part of the tour. It was not until I worked along side Ken in Iraq from 2005 onwards, that we realised the world was indeed very small and that we served the same nation in different quarters. A great man in my eyes, who classed himself no higher then his peers. In true SOF form, expected the highest skills, drilled the details, shared the lessons so we could all survive and didn’t take fools. You will be sadly missed brother - to Ken’s family, Kia Kaha whanau.

    I served with Ken in the Fifth Special Forces Group at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was a first rate, professional soldier who consistently impressed me.He was highly respected by all who knew him.
