Gladys Laverne Wells Byrd

Services for Mrs. Gladys Laverne Wells Byrd of Brookhaven are 11:00 am,

Monday, July 20, 2020, at Central Baptist Church in Brookhaven, MS, with

burial at Riverwood Memorial Park in Brookhaven.

Visitation is at 9:00 am until the time of the service at the church.

Mrs. Gladys Laverne Wells Byrd, 89, passed away peacefully at the Beehive Assisted Living Facility

on July 17, 2020.

She was born on May 18, 1931, to the late Willie H. Wells and Irma Harrington Wells.

Mrs. Byrd loved to travel, and she and her husband made many trips. She dearly loved

her church and church family at Central Baptist in Brookhaven, where she was faithful

and dedicated for many years.

She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Brookhaven and past Worthy Matron.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Walter Benton Byrd; and brother, Willie “Braxton” Wells.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, James W. Byrd and wife, Brenda, and Ron Byrd and

wife, Robin; daughter, Lisa Covington Hilbun and husband Mickey; brother, Dan Wells, and wife,

Elsie; and sister, Jane Morgan.

She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Ben Covington and wife, Beth, Brittany Alexander, and husband,

Tyler, Bonnie Thompson and husband, Justin, Chris Byrd, Jon Byrd and wife, Jenny, Matt Byrd and wife,

Susan, Andy Byrd, and wife Stephanie, and Scott Byrd and wife, Grace Anne; and 15 great-grandchildren,

along with her wonderful friend and neighbor, Carolyn Howington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Baptist Church of Brookhaven Building Fund,

Elaine Alexander Davis

The funeral service for Mrs. Elaine Alexander Davis will be 2 p.m.,

Monday, July 20, 2020, at Riverwood Family with interment at Ruth Cemetery.

Visitation is from noon until the time of service Monday.

Mrs. Davis, 75, of Ruth, passed from this life July 17, 2020, at New Dawn Retirement Center.

She was born June 6, 1945, to Clarence Alexander and Wickie Wallace Alexander.

Mrs. Davis was the owner of New Dawn Retirement Center for 21 years and

a member of Oak Grove Pentecostal Church. She was “Granny” to countless

family and friends, and she will be remembered by all those who loved her dearly.

Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Leon Alexander; and grandson, Cody Davis.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Marshall Ray Davis; son,

Hujuan Davis and wife, Sissy; daughters, Carla Murphy and husband, Mike,

Mechelle Burnette and April Davis; brother, Aaron Alexander and wife, Ann;

and sister in law, Kay Alexander. She is also survived by nine grandchildren,

ten great grandchildren, and a host of other loving family members and friends.

Willie Virginia Dixon

Services for Mrs. Willie Virginia Dixon, of Wesson, will be 2:30 pm, Sunday, July 19, 2020,

New Sight Baptist Church with burial at New Sight Cemetery.

Visitation is from 1:30 pm until the time of the service on Sunday at the church.

 

Mrs. Willie Virginia Dixon, 92, went to be with her Lord on July 16, 2020, at her residence.

She was born on October 1, 1927, to the late Troy Sloane Malone and Nellie May Wilks Malone.

 

Mrs. Dixon was a member of New Sight Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Edgar Scott; son, Roy;

daughter, Troylynn and husband, James Furlow; two brothers and three sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Hillary Dixon; son, Mike McDavid,

daughter, Sandra Martin along with 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson,  and a host of nieces and nephews.

Charles Hurston Lea

Services for Mr. Charles Hurston Lea, of Brookhaven will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 19, 2020,

at Riverwood Family with burial at Riverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation is from 12:00 pm until the time of the service on Sunday.

 

Charles Hurston Lea, 63, went to be with his Lord on July 16, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 5, 1957, to the late Charles Naul Lea and Minnie Sue Thornhill Lea.

Mr. Lea was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Wesson and worked for Keystone Seneca.

He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and going to church.

 

Preceding him in death are his parents.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Martha Kate Lea; son, Billy Naul Lea, and wife, Jessica;

daughters, Christy Adams and husband, Jake, Martha Bourque and husband, Corey and Bobbie Jean Powell and husband, Jonathon;

his sister, Rhonda McMurray, and husband, Tommy. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren,

Kristen Adams, Jacob Adams, Morgan Adams, Nicole Marsh, Nathaniel Marsh. Travis Lee Marsh, Charles Bradley Lea,

Ian Brady Lea, And Macy Powell; and nephews, Jonathan Hart and Zachary McMurray and niece, Elizabeth Ezell, and a host of family and friends that he loved dearly.

Tyler Neal Meador

A Memorial Service for Mr. Tyler Neal Meador of Hattiesburg is 3:00 pm, Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Riverwood Family.

 

Mr. Tyler Neal Meador, 36, passed away July 15, 2020, in Hattiesburg.

He was born on March 13, 1984.

Tyler graduated from Enterprise High School, Copiah Lincoln Community College, and the University of Southern Mississippi.

He was an agent for Maximus Insurance Company.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents, J.C. Meador and Dorothy Vance Meador, E.C. Bass and Verna Bass;

step-grandmother, Myrtle Meador, and great-grandparents, George Tullison Neal and Elizabeth Neal, of Richie Creek, Lincoln County.

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Jerry, and Patricia Meador; sister, Kimberly Thompson, and husband, Dale;

and nieces, Madison Thompson and Nealie Thompson and friend, Sha-Sha; uncle, Mike and Melanie Bass, aunts, Lynn Bass, Carolyn,

and Earnie Norman, and Donna Pittman. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Joseph Ted Evans

The funeral service for Mr. Joseph Ted Evans will be noon, Saturday, July 18, 2020, at

Riverwood Family, with interment at Riverwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from

11 a.m. until the time of service.

Mr. Joseph Ted Evans, 69, of Brookhaven, MS, passed from this life July 13, 2020,

at his residence. He was born January 16, 1951 to Joseph Alvin Evans and Louise Frost Evans.

He was the owner of Tillotson’s Service Station. Mr. Evans was an active member of the community,

serving as a member and former president of the Brookhaven Exchange Club, member

of B.S.U. at Mississippi State University, and teaching Sunday school at First Baptist,

where he was a member and also served as deacon.

Mr. Evans is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alvin Evans; nephew,

David Evans; and cousin, Owen Evans.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Nancy Evans; son,

Stephen Evans; daughter Laura Evans; nephews, Charles Evans and Joe Evans;

sister-in-law, Carolyn Evans; and cousins, Mike Evans, Martha Blair, Sue Hutto,

Paul Bowie, Terry Bowie, Judy Evans, Tommy Barrentine, and Leebeth Gilmore.

David Earl Thames

Services for Mr. David Earl Thames, of Brookhaven, is 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 15, 2020,

at Riverwood Family with visitation from 12:30 until time of the service.

Interment will be at Freedom Church Cemetery. (Formerly Pleasant Ridge Pentecostal Church).

 

Mr. David Earl Thames, 68, went to be with his Lord on July 11, 2020.

He was born on February 18, 1952, to the late Thurman Earl Thames and Vernice Greer Thames.

Buddy & Gabby were two extremely pampered dogs, they were only two of the many animals David took great joy in caring for.

Creating his woodworks was one of his special gifts and another favorite thing for David was enjoying Nina’s, Shrimp Alfredo.

Spending time with his family was his greatest treasure. He will be missed by all who loved him.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Thames; daughter, Felicia Franklin and granddaughter, Erica Townsend.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gail McCaffery Thames; son, Carl Franklin; daughter, Rebecca L. Tyler;

sister, Kate Nettles; 10 grandchildren, Austin Townsend, Emaleigh Tyler, Elizabeth Cliburn, Michael Cliburn, Zachary Franklin,

Christopher Franklin, Maddison Franklin, and Travis Smith. He is also survived by two special granddaughters, Nina White and Brianne Franklin

and 4 great-grandchildren, Zander Lee Townsend, Willow Rose Townsend, Rowen Elyse Townsend, and Kloie Adele Cliburn.

Rosemary Botts Leggett

Graveside service for Mrs. Rosemary Botts Leggett, of Brookhaven, is 8:00 am, Saturday, July 18, 2020,

at Riverwood Memorial Park.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no visitiation on Friday evening, 7-9 p.m.

Mrs. Rosemary Botts Leggett, 70, passed peacefully, confident in her faith in the Lord’s return, on July 10, 2020,

at University of Mississippi Medical Center.

She was born on September 24, 1949, to the late John Virgil Botts and Wilma Barbara Botts.

Mrs. Leggett was a member of Brookhaven Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was an exceptional swimmer and also taught swimming.

She was a certified realtor in the state of Mississippi, President of BRAG for 2 years, certified health coach for the Institute of Nutrition,

an essential oil coach, and won the People’s Choice Award for “The King” at the Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild Competition.

Preceding her in death were her parents.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dr. Hugh V. Leggett, Jr.; sons Hugh V. Leggett III; and Dr. Brent Lee Leggett;

daughter, Michelle Leigh Leggett and sisters, Brenda Riley, Bobbie Norwood, and Kathy Brown.

Virginia Anne Bethea Peavey

Graveside service for Mrs. Virginia Anne Bethea Peavey of Brookhaven is 10:00 am Monday, July 13, 2020,

at New Sight Cemetery with visitation starting at 9:30 until time of service at New Sight Cemetery.

Mrs. Virginia Anne Bethea Peavey, 80, went to be with her Lord on July 10, 2020, at her home.

She was born on February 4, 1940.

Virginia Anne Peavey filled her days as a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was a longtime community volunteer with all her sons’ activities, including PeeWee football, Dixie Youth baseball,

and the BHS Booster Club, to name a few. She was also very active at First Baptist Church and served as Secretary/Treasurer for BHS Class of ’58.

Through the years she was employed with Tower Loan Brokers, Allred Insurance, Lincoln County Livestock Barn, and Sullivans Sporting Goods.

She was an avid collector of cookbooks and all things “chicken”. To her friends and family, she was known as a master chef and a huge sports fan.

 

Preceding her in death were her father, George Isom Bethea, mother, Bertha Viola Bethea Smith, stepfather, Millard Smith, brother, George Harvey Bethea,

sister, Audrey Elaine Smith Pringle, and, a great-grandson, Holt Davis Landry.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Billy Ray Peavey; sons, Joel Tucker Peavey, and wife, Leah Ann, Christopher Todd Peavey, and Michael Tristan Peavey, Sr.

She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Jessica Lauren Peavey Landry and husband, Jon, Ashley Christian Holtslander, Nicholas Ray Peavey,

Emily Ann Freeman Newell, Scottie Jacob Peavey, Christopher Luke Peavey, Shelby Rae Peavey, Michael Tristan Peavey, Jr., Rebecca Anne Peavey,

Nathan Freeman Peavey, Abigail Rose Peavey, Elliott Locke Peavey and great-grandchildren, Tucker Davis Landry, Tarver Ray Landry, Taylor Kayt Landry,

Michael Keagen Newell and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Graveside service for Mr. Daniel Glynn Langham of Pattison, is 11:00 am Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Daniel Langham, 67, went to be with his Lord on July 10, 2020, at his home. He was born on November 4, 1952.

Mr. Langham was a lifetime Pipeliner and traveler, and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with family and the outdoors.

 

Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter Irvin Langham, mother, Lillian Langham Germana; 9 brothers, Carl, Allen, Thomas,

James, Ben, Bobby, Billy, David, Ernest, and sister, Aileen.

 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gay Langham; sons, Joseph Langham and wife, Lauren, and Carl Carlile and wife, Tracey;
