Martha Lynn Cato Lofton

Funeral service for Mrs. Martha Lynn Cato Lofton will be 11 a.m., Friday, November 5, 2021, at Fair River Baptist Church

with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation is 4-9 p.m., Thursday, November 4, at Riverwood, and will resume Friday morning until 10 a.m.

Mrs. Martha, 77, of Brookhaven, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, November 2, 2021. She began this walk

September 26, 1944, born in Brookhaven, MS, to Horace Cato, Jr. and Louise Stewart Cato. She was a 1962 graduate of Brookhaven High School

and a member of Fair River Baptist Church.

Martha Cato Lofton, our rock, our go to, and our center. Her love for the Lord
radiated through her every word and action. Her life was love, and to love was her gift. Always a friend and encourager to all. Martha married

the love of her life, Fleet, in 1962. They worked side by side in everything they did. They were lifelong members of Fair River Baptist Church,

where they both served wherever needed. She was a member of the choir and taught Sunday School for over 30 years and served on numerous

pastor search committees. Giving candy to the children on Sunday mornings was a joy to "MiMi", but her biggest joy was her card ministry.

Through these cards Martha was able to express her sincere words of encouragement, of healing and comfort, and God's love. Nothing pleased

her more than watching her children and grandchildren play ball at Brookhaven Academy where she was a founding member of the Grand Cougar Club.

Martha always enjoyed Christian music, and to sum up her love for the Lord, her new favorite song says it all: 'Let Me Tell You About My Jesus'.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Fleet Lofton; her parents; grandson, Russ Michael Mangold; brother, Michael Ralph Cato; in-laws,

Clint and Virgie Ruth Lofton; brothers-in-law, Cortez Byrd and Danny Watts; sister-in-law, Barbara Byrd; and nephew, Reggie Watts.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are, her son, Michael Cato Lofton; daughter, Michelle Lofton Mangold and husband, Vince; granddaughter,

Anna Katelyn Mangold; sisters, Beverly Cato Watts and Lucy Cato Goodson and husband, Tommy; aunt, Peggy Smith; nephews and nieces, Terry Byrd and

wife, Liz, Tonya Stewart and husband, Gary, Dana Alexander, Betsey Smith and husband, Trent; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Michelle & Mike, my heart breaks for both of you. Your Mother was a very special and sweet lady. She was definitely an encourager.
I once heard it said ‘my mother taught me everything I needed to know, except how to live without her’. My Mother passed away in December of 2010 and I learn everyday how true that statement is. Not a day goes by that I don’t wish I could ask her something or tell her something.
My advice to each of you is to always remember how much Martha loved each of you. And, if you feel like crying go ahead and cry. Don’t try holding it back or being strong for each other because it doesn’t really help anybody. There are still days that I want to cry because I miss my Mother so much.
I know your Mom and Dad would tell each of you to take care of each other and yourselves and live your lives. They are both watching over you and they loved you both.

Michelle and Mike, we are so very sorry for the loss of your precious Mother. David and I count ourselves most blessed for having known Mrs. Martha and Mr. Fleet and loving them and being loved by them. We shall miss and grieve for Mrs. Martha but at the same time rejoice because we know she is with our Lord and Savior in Heaven. We shall never forget Mrs. Martha and the Godly woman she was. What a monumental legacy she leaves behind. We shall be praying for you Michelle and Mike, and for her family and friends. God bless, we love you! David and Janice Douglas

Mrs Martha was so so special to me…the minute I met her so many years ago. I will never forget her and all the birthday cards I received over the years. Lots of long talks. Prayers for you Michelle and Michael I love y’all as I did your sweet mama. I am sorry I couldn’t make it to Brookhaven today. God bless you all.

My heart tonight is broken for this sweet family and all that they have gone through in their lifetime. Since I was a little girl, I always felt Miss Martha’s love and Godly prescience every time I was around her. I knew as I grew into adulthood that she still would always speak to me anywhere she saw me…even after I had long graduated from high school and she could have been somewhat distant. But when I think of Miss Martha Lofton, I think of a lady who lived her eulogy every single day. She was who she was and she never left a conversation without telling you she loved you. I knew she loved me and I knew she meant every word she said. She had to endure pain and suffering on a level that most people will never understand; But she did it with grace and humility and the heart of a champion. I will cry tomorrow because I will miss Miss Martha, but rejoice in knowing she is in the prescience of her Savior. If there were more people in this world like Miss Martha Lofton, there would be no need for nerve medicine. Her doctor was Jesus, and her medicine was her Bible. God bless the life of one of His most special SAINTS, and may we all try to be more like her. For the life and legacy of Miss Martha Cato Lofton, I say thank you. She was without a doubt, the absolute very best. —-All my love, Amanda Byrd Rawls

When you scroll through these comments, there’s no need to say anything at all. Miss Martha lived her eulogy every single day. If there were more people in this world like Martha Lofton there would probably be no need for any psychiatric doctors. She not only could touch your heart with her words, but you also knew when she said something she truly meant it. I will always remember her smile and the way she never left a conversation without telling me she loved me. I hurt so deeply tonight when I say I will miss her, but my heart is thankful she is in Heaven tonight with Mr. Fleet and Russ Michael. Next to my own mother, she was the sweetest most humble Christian lady I have ever known, and I can’t wait to see her again one day. God bless all her precious sweet family tonight and those most dear to her heart. I feel honored and humbled to have known such a great lady. She was an angel on this earth and will forever live on in my heart. Love you all. —Amanda Rawls

I loved Mrs. Martha for so many reasons. First of all because she loved me. She loved my family. She loved Brookhaven Academy. She loved KDMC. But most of all because she loved Jesus and she was a living testament of the difference we could make in the lives of the most ordinary human here in Lincoln County. She cared. She wanted to make a difference. I love her for that. She was one special, lady.
