The funeral service for Sam Laird will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 7 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Riverwood Family.
Sam Laird, 93, of Brookhaven, died February 4, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Brookhaven, July 1, 1931, to Ben and Louise Nettles Laird.
Mr. Laird enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and riding his side by side. He was a board member of Farm Bureau of Brookhaven, Brookhaven Academy, the FHA, and ASC. He was also a Lincoln County Supervisor.
He served his country in the United States Army and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brother, Albert Laird; sisters, Bertha Garza, Francis Schmidt, and Monell Callendar; and grandson, Adam King.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Sue Laird; sons, Tim Laird and Scotty Laird; daughters, Cindy King (Stan) and Jill Evans (Jack); brother, Troy Laird; Sister, Sue Barnette; nine grandchildren, Anna Smith (Chad), Paxton King (Erin), Nicole Case (Mark), Laina Goldsmith (Dustin), Jeremy Laird (Charlee), Madison McCarroll (Ben), Samuel Evans, Mia Evans, and Carter Evans; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and a very special friend, Donna McGehee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church building fund.
The family would like to thank the staff at Deaconess Hospice, especially Heidi Thornton and Jaci Montgomery.
