Hattie Marilyn Case Barrett

Services for Mrs. Hattie Marilyn Case Barrett will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at 11:00am at Friendship Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the services starting at 9:30am till service time at 11:00am.

Hattie Marilyn Case Barrett, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 26, 2020. She was born on February 11, 1936, to Zollie May Case and Ruby Lee Smith Case.

Mrs. Barrett was a substitute teacher for many years and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She loved her family, 40’s and Gospel Music, watching football, reading and traveling.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Zollie and Ruby Case; brother, Clayton Case; Husband, Jack L. Barrett and son, Jack Kimeron Barrett.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Cody Bruce Barrett and wife Anna of Brookhaven, James Kelly Barrett of Little Rock, AR, and Connie B. Anthony and husband Terry of Maumelle, AR; brother, Gary (Butch) Case and sisters, Doris Owens and Irma Lofton. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Andrea Lanell'e Laird

Graveside Services for Mrs. Andrea L. Laird will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at 11:00am at Johnson Grove Church of Christ Cemetery.

Andrea Lanell’e Laird, 47, of Bogue Chitto, passed from this life on September 25, 2020, at King’s Daughters Medical Center. She was born on November 13, 1972, to Earnest Bowman and Delores Butler Bowman.

Andrea was an avid LSU Fan. She loved to travel and cherished time spent her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory were her husband, Mark Laird; parents, Earnest and Delores Bowman; son, Mason Laird; daughter Madi Britt and husband Jay; brother, Jason Bowman and wife Monica along with 1 grandchild, Sadie Kay Britt. She is also survived by a niece and nephew, Cara and Jayce Bowman and many other family members, relatives and friends.

Jesse Lynn Keen

Jesse Lynn Keen, 70, of Wesson, died September 22, 2020 at

University Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He was

born May 7, 1950, to Lawrence Keen and Lore Dell Jorden Keen.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin Keen,

James Keen, Virgil Keen, Ronald Keen, and Frank Keen; and

sisters, Jean Breland and Kathy Keen.

He is survived by his children, Jason Keen, Billy Ray Keen and

Brandy Keen; sisters, Delma Varner, Linda Austin, and Deborah Rushing;

brothers, Clarence Keen, John Keen, Donald Keen, David Keen, Albert Keen,

and Joe Keen; and four grandchildren, Briana, Jessica, Rachel, and Aldrin.

He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

James Edward “Sonny” Vinson

Funeral service for Mr. James Edward “Sonny” Vinson will be 1 p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2020, at Solid Rock Pentecostal Church with burial in Riverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. at the church, until the time of service.

 

Mr. Vinson, of Bogue Chitto, began his journey here, on this earth, March 9, 1936, and he entered his eternal home on September 24, 2020. He was 84 years old.

Mr. Vinson was a heavy equipment operator and worked as an Operation Engineer Local 406 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He served his country in the United States Air Force,

Mr. Vinson was a member of the Solid Rock Pentecostal Church. He served as an usher for many years at First Pentecostal in Denham Springs, Louisiana.

He was an avid traveler and has visited 48 of these United States, as well as Canada and Mexico.

 

He is preceded in death by his one and only child, a son, Kendal Edward Vinson; his parents, Erskin E. Vinson and Martha Stevens Vinson;

sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha Ann Vinson Varner and husband, James Marshall Varner, Sarah Alice Vinson Huggins, and husband, W.L. Huggins,

and Wanda Gene Vinson Avants and husband, William G. Avants.

 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marilyn Kendoyce Laird Vinson. Known as Uncle Bubba by nieces, Marsha Causey of Stewart, MS,

Marla New of Eupora, MS, Sandra Huggins of Greensburg, LA, Amy Bufkin of Galvez, LA, Rita Farris, and Mary LeMoine, both of Marurepas, LA;

and nephews, James M. Varner, Jr. of Watson, LA, John M. Varner of Baton Rouge, LA, Douglas A. Huggins of Grangeville, LA,

James Micah Varner of Tupelo, MS, Allen Avants, and Michael Avants both of Marurepas, LA.

He was a beloved cousin survived by a host of cousins, as well as a friend to many and will be greatly missed.

Bonita Marie Moore

Graveside service for Mrs. Bonita Marie Moore of Brookhaven are 2:00 pm Sunday, September 27, 2020,

at Stewart Cemetery with visitation from 12:00-2:00 on Sunday at Riverwood Family.

Mrs. Bonita Marie Moore, 50, went to be with her Lord on September 24, 2020, at her home.

She was born on May 8, 1970, to the late Jimmy Alford Caves and Ola Irene Rushing Caves.

Mrs. Moore was a member of Bethel Temple United Pentecostal Church and was a Roamer Representative for CSpire.

She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jimmy and Irene Caves.

and brother, Kevin Caves, and father-in-law, Solon Moore.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Anthony Moore; daughters, Hannah Bessonette and husband, McKinzie,

and Summer Moore; brother, Joseph Caves, and wife, Barbara; 4 grandchildren, Malcolm Britt Bessonette, Maddex Rowan Bessonette,

Jimmiee Claire Moore and Layton Anthony Moore. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Dorothy Moore; brothers and sisters in law,

Roger and Patricia Bailey and Bubba  and Maybelle Townsend, and Michelle Purvis; along with nieces and nephews,

Gregory and Tara Blackwell, William Townsend, Robert Bailey, Bryar and Cassidy Townsend, Cody Caves, Bryson Caves,

and a host of great-nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jesse Smith

Services for Mr. Jesse W. Smith are 10:00 am Friday, September 25, 2020, at Riverwood Family with burial at Riverwood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, September 24, at Riverwood and resume from 9:00 am until time of the service on Friday.

Jesse W. Smith, 91, of Brookhaven, MS, gained his wings on September 21, 2020, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Smith was born at his parent’s home in East Lincoln Co., MS on January 3, 1929, to Woodie H. Smith and Loise Townsend Smith. 

Mr. Smith grew up on his parent's farm and always loved raising cattle and had a green thumb for gardening but his main passion was

for building houses and was a local Contractor for over 40 years who has many homes in the area as his legacy.

He stopped building due to health issues in his early 80's.  

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Quinnie L. Williams Smith, his parents, his brother, Charles W. Smith,

his son-in-law who he treated like his son, Michael H. "Sarge" Smith. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Patricia "Pat" Smith, and his son, Jessie Ronnie Smith. His brothers and sisters-in-law, John H. and Patsy Smith,

and Ralph H. and Aby Smith, and his sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Chuck Carter. His grandchildren, Christopher Smith and wife Christina Smith,

and Alanna M. Smith and husband Tracey Case, and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Smith, Quinn J. Smith, and Wrynn Case.

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend who called him Pop, Jennifer Moak, and his very special caregivers,  

who all became family, Rose Hux, Shea Ballard, Kristen Delaughter, Teresa Poole, Sonya Melvin, and Patricia Shaw. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice Compassus and Riverwood Family.

Brandie Michelle McDaniel

Brandie Michelle McDaniel, 33, of Silver Creek, passed away on September 21, 2020, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

She was born on November 9, 1986, to Michael Ty McDaniel and Lori Lee Hamler McDaniel.

Brandie was a 2004 graduate of Carthage High School in Carthage Texas and graduated in 2013 from of CoLin in Wesson, MS

she also attended the University of Southern Mississippi. She loved animals and working in her garden.

 

Preceding her in death were her grandparents, Joe Hamler, Sr. and Harvey and Jo McDaniel; aunt, Barbara Gossett

and uncle, Joe Hamler Jr., and cousins Bubba Gossett, Jr. and Eric McDaniel.

 

Those left to cherish her memory are her parents; son, Ben Oppenheimer, II and

daughter, Abigail Oppenheimer, and brothers, Kevin and Brandon McDaniel;

grandmother Loretta Hamler, uncles, Lionel Dorsey, Jerry McDaniel, Bubba Gossett Sr. aunts, Linda Neely, and Joanne Swindell.

Jeffrey Charles Goodliffe

Jeffrey Charles Goodliffe, 67 of Brookhaven, MS passed away September 19, 2020,

at Kings Daughters Medical Center. He was born in September of 1953, in New Orleans LA.

Jeffrey was a free spirit and couldn’t stand being in one place for too long.

You never knew he might pack up one morning and be gone for months to avoid the cold or just because he felt like it.

Not only did he love to travel and see the world, he enjoyed playing guitar and singing for others.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Audry Rose Welker, his father, and his brother Robert (Ricky) Goodliffe

and survived by his daughter, Lindsey Rachelle Goodliffe, and three grandchildren, Aaliyah, Sofia and Willie.

He is also survived by his sister Gwendolyn and brother Douglas.

Because Jeffrey loved to travel, his daughter will spread his ashes at a later date at different places

he loved spending time and that they shared memories over the years.

Norma Willey

Graveside services for Norma Lynne Willey, 73, of Natchez,
who dropped her body on September 19, 2020, will be at noon on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Natchez City Cemetery
officiated by Rev. David O’Connor. Social distancing/ masks for the safety of all. 
 
Norma was born February 19, 1947, in Natchez, the daughter of Robert and Verna Fay Farr. Her love of art started at a young age
and led her to gain a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of West Florida (1970) while she was a single mother and working full-time.
Her artistic heart and soul led her to seek and find spiritual answers as a follower of Avatar Meher Baba from 1972
until she dropped her body to unite with Him. She was a great example of Love as a wonderful mother, wife,
sister, daughter and in the most difficult times, she remained patient, loving, understanding, giving, kind,
and content with her family, friends, and many cats. The song “Vincent” by Don McLean about one of her favorite artists,
Vincent Van Gogh,
describes her best with, “This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you.” After a long battle with
Alzheimer’s she took her last breath at home under the loving care of her daughter, Katharine, her caretaker,
Karen Palacios, and Compassus Hospice. Sincere gratitude to those
that helped make her wish to be at home a peaceful, loving, and comfortable experience. She was preceded in
death by her parents and third husband, Michael Willey.
She is survived by her daughter, Katharine Parrish, brother, Robert Farr and
second husband and friend, Herbert Larsen.
She will be forever cherished and honored by all who loved her.

James Swager

On the evening of September 19, 2020, James Swager of Brookhaven died at the age of 94.

Jim was born in Schwartz, Louisiana, but moved to Mississippi at the age of 9 years old.

He lived in Brookhaven for 55 years and always considered it home.  

Jim served in WWII joining the army at age 18 and was in combat in Central Europe. 

Jim was proud to have served his country and his stories are part of the legacy he leaves his children,

grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. After serving his country, he

went to school and learned morse code and worked as a telegraph operator for the Illinois Central Railroad. 

He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad for 39 years later serving as a depot agent.

Jim loved bike riding and on his birthday each year, he would ride on the Natchez Trace Parkway the miles of his age

not ending this tradition until he was up in his 80s.  He was a member of the VFW, Oddfellows, Eastern Star, Brotherhood

at various times throughout his life as well as a member of the Masonic Order. Jim won the book of golden deeds award for his work

in the community in 2006. The club he enjoyed the most later in life was the Greater Generation Coffee Club sharing stories,

coffee and laughs with other veterans.  Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church for 55 years.

James is survived by his wife, Earline Williams Swager, his two children, David McDaniel, and Cara Staley, 3 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.  

 

A graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia, MS at 2:00 pm Friday, September 25.
